Horticulturist, Landscape Designer, Retail Design Supervisor
I grew up in southern Wisconsin, just one mile from my grandparents’ dairy farm. Being able to run freely around the rolling hills and farmland of Green County instilled a deep love of nature at an early age. But it wasn’t until my parents gave me my own raised bed in our family vegetable garden and for flowers and herbs that I realized a whole world of horticultural potential!
As the Retail department’s lead Horticulturist and Designer, it is my mission to approach each client’s landscape needs with enthusiasm and to help make their landscape a unique reflection of their own aesthetics, whether they just need a single shade tree installed or a complete redesign. As a professional horticulturist and designer, I enjoy speaking publicly on a variety of horticultural topics to local garden clubs, libraries, and educational institutions.
In my spare time, I like working in my own garden, creating new & exciting container displays with each changing season, reading, hiking, trying new recipes, visiting new places, and going to Brewers games with my husband.
I grew up in Central Wisconsin in a very small town learning to love the outdoors while spending time with my father hunting, fishing and working in our garden. I attended the University of Steven's Point after high school but decided after getting married that I would stay home and raise my two children. Once they were grown, I decided to go back to school and finish my degree and graduated in 2006 from MATC-Mequon campus with a degree in Horticulture with an emphasis in Landscape Design.
I have worked for Johnson's Nursery as part of the Retail Team since 2010. I really enjoy working with my customers one-on-one and turning their landscape needs into a colorful, thoughtfully designed landscape which will provide beauty and interest in all seasons. I can assist you from start to finish with any softscape/planting project whether it is a DIY project, with our We Plan You Plant program, or a complete installation by our crew including a site consultation.
I like to spend my free time with my family, and I enjoy golfing, traveling and gardening in my own yard. I have also been a memeber of the Tree Board of Mequon since April 2011, and I enjoy volunteer work with my church and community.
I was born in Madison, WI and grew up learning about plants and gardening from my parents. They were avid volunteers at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. I designed and maintained my own landscaping for over 25 years before eventually deciding to become a Master Gardener. I continued to pursue my love of plants. I received a degree in Horticulture from MATC, graduating at the top of my class, and focused on residential Landscape Design. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational therapy and I can assist you with adaptive gardening techniques and equipment recommendations.
I am fortunate to have been able to take a hobby and turn it into a career. For me, gardening is art, and it allows me to be creative. Gardens teach patience and give peace. They are pleasing to the eye and to the soul. To me, gardening is relaxing and therapeutic and gives me sanity in a sometimes insane world!
I love working at Johnson’s Nursery and Johnson’s Gardens. I enjoy being surrounded by the trees and plants that give me inspiration, and I am privileged to be able to select the finest plant material to use in my designs. I pay attention to the details of the plants to provide interesting color, texture and form throughout the year in your garden. I can help you renovate existing garden beds or help you start from scratch. I will also design and create your custom winter containers and wreaths at our Cedarburg location.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love traveling, biking, camping and being outdoors experimenting in my own garden.
