Native Plants of Wisconsin
Native Wisconsin plants are one of our specialties. In our effort to help our clients and colleagues learn more about natives, we published a new reference guide describing them in glorious detail. View our native plants page to learn more about the plants that have been growing in Wisconsin since before European settlers arrived—the same ones that can thrive in your own yard and help create a distinctive landscape. The We Plan – You Plant Program
This program is perfect for homeowners who are looking for great design ideas for smaller landscape projects. Want to give a facelift to your patio seating area, or add curb appeal to the front foundation? How about a cool woodland garden or a mixed shrub and perennial bed to add some interest to a corner of the yard? This program is designed for people who enjoy gardening, but can also be tailored for those who prefer to have Johnson’s Nursery install larger, heavier plants. Click here, or on the image link below to download all of the information and materials you will need to get started on your project. After you have taken pictures, plotted your project location on graph paper (graph paper is included on the 5th page of the PDF linked below) and answered questions that help us determine your needs, bring all of your information to one of our retail sales staff to discuss your project. Then give us about 2 weeks to draw a design based on your specifications and then meet with us again to review your finished design. There is no charge for the designs produced through this program. After you have purchased the plants from us you will be given a copy of the design.
For large design projects, or those that require grading, hardscape, or on-site consultations, we will refer your design work to our Landscape Design Department.

The recent December snowstorms in our area have really changed the winter landscape. The wet, heavy snows have blanketed the ground and the plants as well. At first glance, it seems as if nature has stripped the landscape bare. No leaves or flowers to contend with at this time of year! A few...more

I have a confession to make. I am a Wisconsin native who only endures winter. I don’t enjoy it. I don’t look forward to it. I don’t welcome it. I use every ounce of imagination I can muster to survive it. I don’t thrive. I barely cope. I am in the minority. Many people are passionate...more
